I went to the Brooklyn Record Riot this weekend, it seemed like it was extremely poorly attended. All the record guys were like "it says the records are 3 for $5... but I'm willing to go down!" The recession hits us all I guess. Here's what I bought, because everyone likes looking at pictures of records (this is in fact true):
I have not been blogging bc I have been working a lot at work. I should post a link to Pat Lundy's "Work Song" or "I Got Work To Do" by Vanessa Williams (MAW remix with Black Sheep!) but instead I'm going to put up Punch Em In The Dick. I don't know whether this is a joke or not but I'm assuming it must be (the fact that they are from Portland Oregon notwithstanding -- after all this is the same wonderful place that gave us HannaH's Field)

DJ Hero is the dumbest thing in the world, but this is awesome, if only for Daft Punk's ability to stretch the simplest mash-up concept out into all its permutations and make you get really fired up.

For the first time in like forever, I have 2 new Lab reviews up! Pete asked me to write 2x Smiths reviews, probably because he knows that if he wrote them I would have emailed him whinging comments forever and he never would have heard the end of it. Ha!
Smiths 1st LP
Smiths last LP
A few months ago I saw Jen Kwok perform her song "Date An Asian" at this comedy thing in the city, and enjoyed it very much. She was really funny and very polite/gracious about it after the show. We kept in tiny contact because of my job, and unfortunately when she was shooting a video for it I couldn't make it.
But that's OK because it seems I'm in it anyway:
He COMPLETELY IS ME right?
Who is this guy? He is amazing in the video. He also is literally me. Jen's Wordpress reveals that he is Fred Chao, and after a quick Googling, it is revealed that he is a comic artist. A good one! So in that case he literally is not figuratively me. I hope I get to meet him one day, I'm certain that if we shake hands the ground will open up beneath us like in the "Amazing" video and swallow the world.
Anyways, here is Jen's video. It's like eating a slice of Funzo's pizza with extra :) sauce.

If anyone ever messed with Jess I'm fairly certain I would pick up a knife and murder them. We made an awesome-ass mix together a little while ago that I still listen to because it rules. Here is what our conversations are like:
ANYWAYS here is her new single with Udachi. It, like Jess, rules.
Download the single for free! (mp3)
And if you like it, buy the EP from beatport!

Saki Knafo is clearly a genius. In his brilliant Sunday Times article on Spike Jonze's troubled production of "Where the Wild Things Are," he accomplishes several key things:
1) he gives us the definitive history of Jonze's life and career;
2) he chronicles the troubled adaptation of the most important children's book EVER into a mega-budget hollywood flick with the aesthetic sensibilites of the underground avante-garde;
It is wonderful.

In keeping with my self-punking promise to make The 21 Gun Salute your one stop destination for all your 3oh!3-related needs, here is a horrible, horrible discovery that everyone in the world will fall probably in love with and make their ringtone/get tattoo'd on their inner lips (the very lips that should be shut, due to the fact that hips should be in the act of being shaken in a manner not dissimilar to Helen Keller, natch):
^^also I like the fact that the writing in this entry is naturally conducive to :( faces
OK first of all everyone just take a minute to scroll through this incendiary mash-up. I will be sitting here, quietly vomiting onto my stomach.

So... does this make literally zero sense to anyone else besides me? Is this like when I said I should just put every song into Ableton and cut a mix? Because it feels like the world is actively conspiring against me now. I mean, this is NOT just because
right? Like, what is this?
You're welcome, 3Oh!3 fans.
Also, this.
I must confess that the re-emergence of mash-up is making me feel like Squidward from the Spongebob movie.
